I decided to not go with the obvious song choice for how I feel right now, like any song with the word "survivor" in the title. Or for that matter, anything by Survivor.
I am the ambivalent owner of my very first ipod-brand MP3 player. I am not personally an Apple fan, but hey. So I have been loading our music collection slowly but surely in the very few seconds of each day I have to do something I want to do. Heard this song for the first time in at least a few years and it brought me back... It was released the last time Dennis was away for training, (then it was basic and tech school) and I was in my last semester of college at Michigan State. I can't believe how many times I rocked out to this one in our little Accent hatchback. It is amazing how circular life is! Here I am in my last semester of grad school and Dennis is away at training. We have both moved up an echelon in our careers but we're basically at the same place... looking at ending an era in our life and beginning a new one and staring an imminent move right in the face. As tough as an uncertain future might be, I love the excitement and challenges that come along with it.
This one is insanely dance-able and catchy with a cry behind which I can definitely rally:
I'm on fire and now I think I'm ready to bust a move. Check it out I'm rocking steady :)

Thursday September 30th: September - Earth Wind and Fire
Goodbye September. I can't believe how quickly it has passed. I just happened to hum this song to myself this morning and then realized that they are playing the local multi-day music fest here in Mobile this weekend! Any way you look at it, the soulful vocals and sweet horns of EWF were enough to get me moving this morning. I really enjoy dancing like a fool way too much.
Perhaps this should be a Vlog instead. ;)
Brings me back to middle school gym class and poor Mr. Noeker. Sorry Mr. N, wherever you are, for being an obnoxious kid. But thanks for exposing me to one of the greatest bands to come out of the 70s.
Jumpsuit and Nehru jacket optional: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nfLEc09tTjI

Wednesday, September 29th: Animal - Def Leppard
As I mentioned in the previous post, I haven't slept tonight so I was just listening to something peppy. I love, and never miss a chance, to dance in the car. I was going to start off with a failproof getcha moving kinda song, but then Animal from Def Leppard came on the radio. I hear from the back seat from Seige, my three-year-old, "YEAH!!" and I look back and he's air drumming.
BUT
He is not air drumming with his usual number of "sticks", but with only one. Coincidence? Probably. Any less awesome or amusing? Nope.
In case you are not sure why I think this is so cool:
THE DRUMMER FROM DEF LEPPARD'S ONLY GOT ONE ARM!
(repeat ad nauseum for all you Bloodhound Gang fans)
Trivia for the day: This song was released in 1987 at the height of all things arena rock on Def Leppard's album Hysteria. And oddly enough, was worked over by none other than Shania Twain's record-producing ex-husband Mutt Lange.
Enjoy a daily dose of hairband with your wednesday!

Blog with a Purpose
I wish this "purpose" was actually more admirably purposeful than it is, but alas... here I am again. I have blogged without fanfare about my family, which was too time consuming, about politics, which was too frustrating, and about nothing at all, which didn't work as well for me as a meme than it did for the long running TV sitcom Seinfeld.
I had always admired my friends and family, and perfect strangers (hello Pioneer Woman) for their themed blogs that always seemed to make so much sense.
Then lightening hits me. Either that or my lack of adult contact since I am a defacto single mom for now. I am a morning person through and through. I am actually a night person as well. I tell anyone who will listen that I wish I never had to sleep at all because it feels like the biggest fattest stinkiest waste of good time I could ever conceive. In fact today was one of those days when I just didn't go to sleep.
In the morning, there is nothing I like better than listening to a song (or something else) that just puts that day, my mood, or life in general, to music. Or it just makes me smile.
Thus is born my very non-earth-shattering purposeful blog.
Hope it makes you smile as much as I do! :o)
